WHISPER CREEK LOVE STORIES

Posted on February 9, 2025February 9, 2025 By Greg Stangl

THE STANGL ANGLE

Greg Stangl

Romeo and Juliet, Mark Anthony and Cleopatra, Kermit and Miss Piggy: There are lots of famous love stories we hear about, but the ones we are really interested in are the people we know and love here in Whisper Creek. (Writers note: There were several other couples that I interviewed for this article with great love stories but sadly we did not have space for them all…Greg)

Teresa 💝 Jeff

JEFF & TERESA  (Married 44 years) Jeff was walking around at a county fair with a friend and they saw a girl waiting in line for a ride. It just so happened that Teresa was the cousin of his friend, and he introduced them. After taking her on a carnival ride or two, Teresa wrote her number on his hand. After dating for five months, Jeff asked her to marry him. The hardest part of the whole deal was getting permission from Teresa’s dad. Jeff said he was a big guy and he was afraid of him.

JACKIE & JAMES (Married 46 years) Jackie’s sister told her about a certain guy she knew and wanted Jackie to meet. She was told that he hung out at a certain bar, but Jackie had to go to the bar twice before she finally saw him. He asked her to marry him the very first night they met. They were married 2 ½ years later.

TONY & DEANNA (Married 31 years)  Deanna lived down the street from Tony, but it took a friend to introduce them. Deanna was the sister-in-law of a guy who worked for Tony and who introduced the two. They dated for a year. Tony said he loved her so much that they got married twice ~ the first time in a civil ceremony and a little later in the church.

Twyla 💓 Dwayne

DWAYNE & TWYLA (Married 51 years) Dwayne was a little older and noticed Twyla at Lee County High School in Kentucky. He said she was the prettiest girl in all the county. One day as he was walking through a field she hit him with a rock, trying to get his attention. That got them talking. She captured his heart and he married her right out of high school.

RICK & LINDA (Married 53 years) Rick and a buddy were playing catch at Greenfield State park in New Hampshire. The friend was in the water and Rick threw the ball wide and it landed by Linda. He asked her to toss him the ball. When she came out of the water they started talking, and the rest as they say, is history. They were married a few years later.

EVANS & KAREN (Married 31 years) They had seen each other at high school but hung around with different groups. Karen was a cheerleader and in Student Government while Evan’s was more involved in band.  After Karen’s first husband passed, she became more involved in the church that she and Evans both attended, and they became friends. On their first date, they went to see the musician Lewis McGee who encouraged them to play their music in front of audiences. Church and music have always been at the foundation their marriage.

BARB & BILL (Married 14 years) The two first met at a bus stop in high school, although they attended different schools. Bill was a wild “bad boy” in high school, so Barb knew him but they never really dated. Fast forward 30 years (and a divorce) later, when Barb attended a funeral of a friend. She knew that Bill was going to be there so she watched the door for him to come in. Barb’s (wise 😉) mom gave Bill her phone number and after her mother left, Bill came to Barb offering to return the phone number. Barb told him to keep it and they started dating soon afterward.

FRED & MARY~ANN (Married 50 years) Mary-Ann was studying at nursing school and was exhausted most nights. A girlfriend called her up wanting to go out to a dance that night. Mary-Ann was tired but agreed to go. She was sitting in a chair with her legs up on another chair when Fred walked by. She told Fred that it would cost a quarter for him to pass and he dutifully came up with the money. He asked her to dance and politely walked her to her car that first night. On their first official date Fred showed up with a dozen red roses and that was Mary-Ann knew he was the one.

I’m sure that there are many other interesting stories about how couples met and started dating. The stories above are just a sampling. In any event, we wish you and yours a very

HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!

🦋 Whisper Creek is a community of VOLUNTEERS. Every single Event, Activity, and Amenity is organized and run by neighbor volunteers. There are also plenty behind-the-scenes volunteers who do small acts of kindness that often go unnoticed ~ delivering Christmas cards, putting supplies away, cleaning up a mess someone else left behind, or intentionally visiting those unable to get out and about.

So here’s a shoutout to EACH & EVERY WHISPER CREEK VOLUNTEER, past and present. THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING YOU DO! Whisper Creek is surely a wonderful place to live because of YOU!
