THE ROARING 20’s RETURN TO WHISPER CREEK!

Posted on February 22, 2026February 23, 2026 By Trish LaPlaca

The 1920’s decade really did “ROAR”! It’s probably no surprise – the nation’s wealth was “aces” – it had DOUBLED over those ten years. Americans were all too willing to enjoy its first wave of all-out consumerism. Not only did the majority of people move away from farms and into cities, but with over 60% of the nation having access to electricity, they could also afford to buy some of the most hotsy-totsy, new-fangled gadgets ever like radios, vacuum cleaners, and even dishwashers.

But of course, the most revolutionary invention of all was the automobile. Yep, a Ford Model T would only set you back 260 clams in 1924. Those wheels could take you anywhere- especially to the movies to be treated to silent and “talkie” movies featuring the likes of Charlie Chaplin, Mary Pickford, Rudy Valentino and more. Now, they were the Cat’s Pajamas!

The 1920’s also ushered in what could be definitely be referred to as America’s first freedom revolution. Young Americans had money in their pockets, radios, jazzy jazz music, and gin mills & speakeasies hosted by bootleggers and racketeers (despite the prohibition of liquor in January of 1920). The “hooch” and “giggle water” flowed and Flappers and Sheiks danced their nights away to the Charleston, the Black Bottom and the Cake Walk. Okay, so some were “Oliver Twists” and others were “dead hoofers”, but who cared? And remember those cars they drove? Some people even called them “bedrooms on wheels”. Yep, living in this decade sure could be free and easy 😉!

So now that that whacky decade is making a comeback right here at Whisper Creek this week, let’s ROAR with excitement and shake a leg to join in on all of the fantastic activities. Be cool and very Jakeloo – see you at the Springfest dinner, the Vaudeville Show, the Roaring 20’s Dance and more. They’re all sure to be the Bee’s Knees and the Cat’s Pajamas!

🦋 Whisper Creek is a community of VOLUNTEERS. Every single Event, Activity, and Amenity is organized and run by neighbor volunteers. There are also plenty behind-the-scenes volunteers who do small acts of kindness that often go unnoticed ~ delivering Christmas cards, putting supplies away, cleaning up a mess someone else left behind, or intentionally visiting those unable to get out and about.

So here’s a shoutout to EACH & EVERY WHISPER CREEK VOLUNTEER, past and present. THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING YOU DO! Whisper Creek is surely a wonderful place to live because of YOU!
