Meet Our Amazing ALL-VOLUNTEER Team

The Wind Beneath Whisper Creek’s Wings

Whisper Creek is a community of VOLUNTEERS. Every single event and activity on our calendar is organized and run by volunteers. In addition, there are many behind-the scenes volunteers who maintain the library, organize events off-site, stock the kitchen, decorate the hall, deliver Christmas cards, welcome newcomers, raise funds, disseminate the calendar and communications, and handle the daily management of funds, scheduling, and the oversight of a massive organization.

Truth be told, we have many volunteers doing small selfless acts of kindness that often go unnoticed ~ putting something away, cleaning up a mess someone left behind, or intentionally visiting people throughout the park just to put a smile to those unable to get out and about.

SO HERE’S A SHOUTOUT TO EACH AND EVERY WHISPER CREEK VOLUNTEER, PAST AND PRESENT. THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING YOU DO! WHISPER CREEK IS TRULY A WONDERFUL PLACE TO LIVE BECAUSE OF YOU!

BIO

Why did I volunteer to write for the newsletter? I have been (was/am?) a photographer for well over 40 years and I think that creative writing comes from the same part of the brain used to create good photography. I am naturally creative person and I think that writing helps me to focus and gives me a natural release for my imagination. The best stories practically write themselves in an hour or two. Then I’ll spend the next several days writing and rewriting to polish them. Most of my stories include a generous dash of humor.  My favorite writers include John Steinbeck and Mike Royko Also, who was a columnist for the Chicago Sun Times.

BIO

This is my 10th season at Whisper Creek.

Michigan is my home state, and I retired as a Quality Engineer.

I volunteered because I did not want to see the Ice Cream Socials go away. We always need volunteers and so I decided to step back in as Ice Cream Chair, an activity that I had chaired for 5 years previously. Ice cream was my first volunteer position, and I was also the President of Central Committee for two years and Vice President for two years.

The most enjoyable part of this volunteer position is meeting new people.

I like the fact that the weekly activities are announced, and we get to introduce new residents. It is a great social time to meet people in the park.
